RoHS Recast and REACH updates and Conflict Minerals, Oh My! The RoHS Recast has been published, new SVHCs are being added to REACH every six months, and now the US is regulating conflict minerals used by public companies. Bring your questions about the use of the CE mark to mandatory declaration of conformity to open scope in RoHS, to which newest SVHC are used in electronics, to the latest from the SEC on the guidance ruling on conflict minerals. The session will also discuss enforcement practices, industry compliance best practices and lessons learned for general product eco-compliance.

CALCE and IPC will sponsor a technical seminar from May 24-25, 2011 at the University of Maryland’s College Park Campus. This seminar is intended to provide attendees with an interactive forum to discuss the latest concerns, trends and technologies in electronics that impact product reliability. CALCE, IPC and Members of the JISSO International Council, will speak on embedded technologies, batteries, environmental regulations, counterfeit avoidance, test and simulation methods, as well as the emerging field of prognostics.
Alberi EcoTech's Krista Crotty will be joined by Stephanie Castorina of IPC to give an update on the latest environmental regulations effecting the electronics industry; as well as some pragmatic pointers and best practices on how to implement a successful compliance program. Krista is also participating remotely inthe JISSO International Council general meeting as the North American Chair of the Environmental Task Group. The JIC meetings follow the JIF and are also located at CALCE.
As the newly appointed co-chair of the 2-18 committee, she will be attending the event to further her knowledge on the happenings with all things green pertaining to the electronics industry. Alberi EcoTech partnered with the NH International Trade Resource Center to offer this half day workshop on Environmental Compliance. Attendees learned about RoHS and the Recast (recent amendments to RoHS that simplify product scope, but add a more stringent process for demonstrating product compliance); REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) for article manufacturers; and best practices for and lessons learned on product environmental compliance.

Krista Crotty now co-chair of 2-18 committee
Krista is now the co-chair of the 2-18 committee, which is responsible for the Supplier Declaration Standards (175x series); including the 1752 Materials Declaration Standard. She will be joined by Richard Kubin of ProCM in leading the committee. They are working with several modules within the series to further assist the electronics industry in gathering supplier information for topics such as RoHS, REACH, pack and packing, and processing chemicals.
